A slight break that turned into a not-so slight break….

So, after the Belated Readathon I planned on doing some posts and then maybe taking a small break for the holidays. Instead it turned into nearly a month. It wasn’t a bad blogging experience that kept me away or being exhausted from the fun that was the Belated Readathon either. I lost my mother in December 2009, it was sudden and unexpected, and something I’m still wrapping my head around. Even though there has been a passage of time, the December/holiday time of year is still hard for me.

I’m still figuring this whole blogging thing out and struggle with how personal to get on my blog ( I’m sure most book bloggers have had this dilemma as well in the beginning) so I won’t bore you with the details. But know that I’m here, and that I have been reading wonderful books, and have been visiting your blogs and enjoying your posts.

It’s a new year, and there are all sorts of fun reading challenges I have signed up for and that I’m looking forward to participating in. So I’m back and excited to get started!

Book Exchange Party…..I wanna have one!

When I was looking around Pinterest a few days ago I saw this super adorable idea floating around for a book exchange party that was from  http://reidgirlshandmade.blogspot.com (which is a very cute blog, you should take a look around!).

Everyone at the party was to bring a book to exchange with someone else, included was a book plate they had to fill out saying why they recommend that book. Then everyone drew names to see whose book they got! Everything from the decorations for the party, to the food, to the party favors are just such cute ideas.  On the blog they also include a free download so you can create your own invites….which I just might do!

Starting a chunkster

For some reason, starting a rather sizable book is sometimes daunting to me. I’m not the kind of reader who usually reads multiple books at a time ( which is odd because when I was younger I had no problem doing so, must be my old brain!)  so as I’m reading one I usually start getting an itch to read something else…which leads to me putting down the large book…which leads to me never picking it up again. However, this time I’m having a little more success.  I started Gone With The Wind a few weeks back and I’m still going strong. I’ve had a week and a half where due to planning a bridal shower I’ve been going at a slower pace, but so far so good!

I’m not sure why I haven’t read it before.  As a child I watched the movie with my mom a lot, and despite it’s insanely long run time, I really enjoyed it.  As I got older I kind of turned my nose up at it, it seemed like romance novel disguised as literature  (it didn’t help that at my local bookstore the copies they had have a bodice ripper-esque cover)  or something old ladies read.  But I must say…I’m really enjoying so far, it’s very different than I thought it would be.  Let’s hope the next 600 pages are just as good!

The Library

I have a bit of an obsession with personal libraries. I love cozy spaces with floor to ceiling books, comfy chairs, and artwork adorning the walls. This video shows the overflowing personal library of Duncan Fallowell and he also describes his passion for books. Its about 10 mins long, but so worth a watch!

Beginnings

After many months of putting it off, I’m finally starting my own book blog!  I’ve been a pretty dedicated book blog reader for a while now,  but could never bring myself to make that leap from reader to blogger.  So I’m making that leap now.  I’ve enjoyed reading everyone else’s blogs and seeing this amazing sense of community that seems to exists within the world of book bloggers.  Starting something new is kinda daunting….but I can honestly say I’m excited to get started!
